We are in the territory of Serracapriola, along the slope overlooking the valley of the river Fortore.
In the last years, this river has been interested by the project LIFE NATURE for its re-naturalization and for the preservation of the eco-system.
It’s also in progress the creation of the Medium Fortore regional Park in the region Puglia.
The Pezze Amendola Walloon represents the most significant site of all the varied natural systems of “Ecological Corridors” that develops along the course of the river. These ecological corridors are useful and functional to the displacements of wild fauna and they were certainly used by a colony of the Appennine wolf, to move from Daunia Mounts to Gargano Promontory .
The permanence of these chests of biodiversity allows us to understand how important is to restore the balance between man and nature, between economics and the conservation of ecosystems.
Inside the Walloon develops all the diverse flora typical of areas with thermal inversion, and during the spring, the underwood colors explode with early blooms, above all those of wild orchids (Serapia apulicas, Orchid italic, Orchid morio, Orchid purpurea).
The permanence on the territory of such residues of the ancient forest plays an important role in regulating the microclimate and avoiding soil erosion.
